As Australia’s HVAC&R industry enters a new era of sustainable practices, Superior Training Centre proudly participated in ATMOsphere Australia 2025, the leading event dedicated to the future of natural refrigerants. Held over two impactful days, this conference brought together industry thought leaders, policymakers, manufacturers, and educators to discuss how the transition to energy-efficient, low-GWP (Global Warming Potential) systems is reshaping the landscape.
The Industry is Evolving — and So Are We
With the phase-down of HFCs under the Kigali Amendment and increasing demand for energy-efficient systems, the shift toward CO₂, ammonia, hydrocarbons, and other natural refrigerants is no longer optional — it’s essential.
STC’s participation wasn’t just about presence; it was about purpose. We attended with one goal: to ensure our training programs are aligned with where the industry is headed, not where it’s been.
Why Natural Refrigerants Matter for Training Providers
- Regulatory Pressure: Australia’s HFC phasedown is part of a global movement. HVAC technicians must be trained to work safely and effectively with natural refrigerants to remain compliant.
- Employer Demand: Companies are increasingly specifying systems using R744 (CO₂) and other natural refrigerants. Skilled labour in these systems is in short supply.
- Safety & Specialisation: Natural refrigerants present unique challenges — such as operating at higher pressures or flammability — requiring specialist knowledge and up-to-date certifications.
- Sustainability Expectations: Both governments and clients are looking to reduce emissions across building systems. Technicians trained in future-ready refrigerants are vital to achieving those goals.
STC’s Commitment to the Future
Superior Training Centre is already leading the charge through innovative partnerships like the CO₂ Refrigeration Training Program delivered in conjunction with Beijer Ref Academy. This nationally recognised program prepares tradespeople to work confidently with modern refrigeration systems that meet sustainability standards.
Our attendance at ATMOsphere Australia 2025 has only reinforced our focus: to be the premier training provider for a low-emissions, high-efficiency HVAC&R industry. We’re actively integrating insights from the event into our course design, trainer development, and industry collaborations.
What’s Next?
With more regulatory changes expected in 2025 and beyond, HVAC&R apprentices and technicians can no longer rely on yesterday’s methods. STC is here to ensure they’re ready for the next chapter — equipped with the latest skills and backed by industry-aligned training.
