Overseas Trade Qualifications: Understanding ATCS and NAT Gap Training

Qualified overseas as an electrician or air conditioning mechanic? Your international experience could help you work towards Australian trade qualifications and licensing.

Australia recognises the skills of experienced overseas tradespeople. However, additional training and assessment may be required to meet Australian industry standards and licensing requirements.

What is ATCS?

The Australian Technical Competencies Statement (ATCS) is a skills assessment outcome for eligible Australian citizens and permanent residents with overseas electrical qualifications or experience.

It identifies existing competencies and can support eligible electricians in Victoria to progress towards Australian trade recognition through supervised employment and additional training.

Like the Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR), the ATCS can form part of a pathway towards an Australian qualification, although eligibility and licensing requirements differ.
