On Monday 9 March, future electrical apprentices participated in an industry preparation day designed to give them a clear understanding of what to expect as they begin their careers in the electrical sector. The event brought together employers, industry representatives, training organisations and support providers to discuss the pathways into apprenticeships and the standards expected on worksites across the industry.
Throughout the day, participants heard from a range of speakers who shared insights into the current demand for electrical apprentices and the wide variety of work available in the sector, including commercial, industrial, infrastructure and residential projects. Industry representatives discussed what employers look for in first-year apprentices, highlighting the importance of attitude, reliability and a strong commitment to learning.
Safety was a key focus of the event, with sessions reinforcing that safe work practices and proper site conduct are non-negotiable in the electrical industry. Participants also gained an understanding of the professional expectations required on worksites, including the importance of communication, teamwork and accountability.
The program also explored the broader apprenticeship system in NSW, explaining how apprenticeships are regulated and the different organisations involved in supporting apprentices throughout their training. Representatives from industry bodies, apprenticeship support providers and training organisations outlined the roles they play in helping apprentices progress successfully from the start of their training through to qualification.
The event concluded with discussions about upcoming work experience placements and the next steps for participants as they move closer to starting their apprenticeship journey. By bringing together industry, training and support organisations, the day provided valuable insight into the opportunities available and reinforced the importance of professionalism and commitment from the very beginning of a career in the electrical trade. Special thanks to Electrogroup for your support in the event.
