The UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician equips experienced tradespeople with the skills to install, test, fault find, repair and maintain electrical systems in buildings and premises. It incorporates the Electrical Regulatory Authorities Council (ERAC) Essential Performance Capabilities required for an Unrestricted Electrician’s Licence.

Our blended delivery model is designed for experienced tradesmen already working in the industry who want to formalise their experience without completing a traditional apprenticeship. Theory is delivered online, allowing you to study anywhere in Australia at your own pace, while practical training and assessments are completed in structured block sessions at our campus to minimise time away from work. Students are offered an 18-month training contract to complete all requirements while remaining employed. This qualification includes competency development activities linked to licensing for work on electrical installations above 50V a.c. or 120V d.c. Workplace learning under appropriate supervision is mandatory.

How do I become a licensed electrician?

To become a licensed electrician in Australia, you must complete the UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician, which is the main qualification required. What are the entry requirements for this course?

You must have at least 3 years of experience working in the electrical industry in Australia.

How long does it take to complete the course?

As this is a self-paced course, the overall duration depends on the time and effort committed by the student. Superior Training Centre will issue an 18-month training contract, which is expected to provide sufficient time to complete all course components. Practical assessments will be delivered in block sessions, and the proposed dates will be outlined in your Letter of Offer.

Note: The course duration does not include mandatory workplace (on-the-job) training hours, which are required to obtain the UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician qualification and must be done simultaneously.

Am I eligible to enrol if I am currently an apprentice or an international student?

If you are undertaking a formal apprenticeship, your training is required to be delivered face-to-face under your training contract. For this reason, the blended delivery option is not suitable for apprentices. Similarly, international students studying under visa conditions that require face-to-face delivery may not be eligible for this model. However, we offer alternative delivery options that meet regulatory requirements.

What are the learning outcomes after completing this course?

Students who complete all 29 units of competency as stated in the Qualification Packaging Rules and Units of Competency will be issued with UEE30820 – Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician. This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

Students who complete some but not all units of competency as stated in the Qualification Packaging Rules and Units of Competency may be issued with a Statement of Attainment. It will identify only those units of competency that have been successfully completed as part of the qualification and recognised nationally under the AQF.
