Airconditioning and refrigeration mechanics assemble, install and repair industrial, commercial and domestic air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.
Work is indoors and outdoors; on construction sites, in commercial buildings and at private homes. Expect to work at heights or in confined spaces such as ceiling cavities.
Suited for those with a practical interest in mechanics, electrics and equipment maintenance. Good customer service and troubleshooting skills are important.
This qualification provides competencies to select components, install, set up, test, fault find, repair, and maintain refrigeration systems and equipment that apply to food storage and preservation, air conditioning and air distribution equipment in buildings and premises. It includes regulatory requirements for purchasing and handling refrigerants.
The students of the UEE32220 Certificate III in Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration are required to attend 1 day per week for 112 weeks. During one day per week (from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm) the classroom-based learning and simulated/practical assessments must take place. The students are also required to complete Workplace Learning Component hours.
The volume of learning allocated to a qualification will vary depending on the level of the qualification and the experience and competency of the student. Students must complete the allocated hours for the qualification they are undertaking in order to achieve competency. If the student applies for RPL or Credit Transfer, the volume of learning may be reduced.
